23 12 060 Replacing radial shaft seal for output flange (GS6-17BG/DG)

Attention!
After completion of repair work, check TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL .
Use only approved transmission oil. Refer to: MANUAL TRANSMISSION - OPERATING FLUIDS
Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious damage to the transmission.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Partially remove PROPELLER SHAFT
.
- Disconnect propeller shaft at transmission.
- Release center mount.
- Tie up the propeller shaft to the vehicle underbody.NOTE: Bending the propeller shaft by an excessive angle can cause premature damage to the joint/propeller shaft!
Removal:
Brace output flange with special tool 23 0 020 .
Undo collar nuts with special tool 23 1 210.
Detach output flange from output shaft using special tool 33 1 150 .
Remove bolt (1).
Slide special tool 23 3 150 over the output shaft and firmly tighten in the radial shaft seal.
Screw in bolt (1) until the radial shaft seal is pulled out.
If necessary remove the annular spring of the radial shaft seal.
Installation:
Coat sealing lips of new radial shaft seal with transmission oil.
Drive in radial shaft seal with special tool 24 0 110 and plastic hammer until flush.
Mount output flange.
Brace output flange with special tool 23 0 020 .
Position collar nut using special tool 23 1 210 and tighten.
Tightening torque, refer to: 23 21 1AZ .
Insert collar nut using bolt lock, Loctite 243, (sourcing reference BMW Parts Department).
Required follow-up work:
- Install the PROPELLER SHAFT .
