21 52 500 Removing and installing/replacing clutch master cylinder

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove the TRIM PANEL FOR PEDAL MECHANISM

Removal: 

Turn locks (1) 90° counterclockwise.

Unlock latch mechanism (2).

Remove cover (3).

Draw off brake fluid up to supply hose of clutch hydraulic system (2).

• For this purpose, use only a vacuum pipe that is exclusively used for removing brake fluid.

Detach supply hose (2) from expansion tank (1).

Detach clamps (1).

Push out the bolt and remove the return spring (2).

Release screws (1) on clutch master cylinder (2).

Unhook return spring (1) from clutch pedal.

Detach retaining clip (1) and pull clutch pedal with clutch master cylinder off bearing support.

Press bolt ends (2) together and remove pin.

Detach clamp (1) using a screwdriver.

Detach hydraulic line from clutch master cylinder (2).

Detach supply hose (1) from clutch master cylinder (2).

Lever clutch switch (3) out of clutch master cylinder (4) using a screwdriver.

Detach plug connection (1) and disconnect connector (2) from clutch switch (3).

Installation: 

Clutch switch (3) is secured against incorrect assembly.

Clutch switch (3) must latch audibly into place.

Latch connector (2) into plug connection (1).

Connect supply hose (1) to clutch master cylinder (2).

Connect hydraulic line to clutch master cylinder (2).

Clamp (1) must latch into place.

Install clutch pedal with clutch master cylinder.

Install retaining clip (1).

Retaining clip (1) must be seated with both shanks in the bolt groove.

Parts:  Replace retaining clip (1) and bolt.

Hook return spring (1) onto clutch pedal.

Tighten bolts (1) on clutch master cylinder (2).

Tightening torque, refer to: 21 52 2AZ .

Install the return spring (2) and insert a lightly greased bolt.

Install retainers (1).

Parts:  Check retainer (1), replace if necessary.

Both shanks on retainers (1) must rest in groove of bolts and latch audibly into place.

Connect supply hose (2) to expansion tank (1).

Install cover (3).

Lock latch mechanism (2).

Rotate locks (1) through 90° in clockwise direction.

Required follow-up work: 

• Bleed the CLUTCH HYDRAULIC SYSTEM .
• Install the TRIM PANEL FOR PEDAL MECHANISM
