Special tools required:

• 11 8 815 
• 11 9 182

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove FLYWHEEL 

Attention! 

Engine oil may escape.

The radial shaft seal must be installed dry.

Do not use engine oil or lubricant.

Risk of damage to crankshaft sensor.

Read and comply with NOTES ON PROTECTION AGAINST ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD PROTECTION) .

Removal: 

Attention! 

Magnet wheel (1) is magnetic.

Keep magnet wheel (1) in a plastic bag away from metallic debris/shavings.

Remove magnet wheel (1) from crankshaft.

Attention! 

Drill size maximum 2.5 mm.

Remove metallic debris/shavings immediately with vacuum cleaner.

Do not remove metallic debris/shavings with compressed air!

Drill a hole with a drill (1) in the radial shaft seal (see arrow).

Attention! 

Remove metallic debris/shavings from the radial shaft seal (1).

Attention! 

Risk of damage at the crankcase and on the running surface of the crankshaft.

Immediately carefully remove residual metallic debris/shavings.

Screw in special tool 23 0 490  in the direction of the arrow.

Drive out radial shaft seal with impact weight in direction of arrow.

Installation: 

Attention! 

Damage to the crankshaft seal.

Touching the sealing lip (inner) and oiling the crankshaft seal will destroy it.

• Do not touch the sealing lip (inner) of the crankshaft seal.
• Do not oil the crankshaft seal.
• Install the crankshaft seal dry.

Preassemble special tool 11 8 815  on crankshaft.

Carefully slide the crankshaft seal (1) straight off the special tool 11 8 815  using a rotational movement until the crankshaft seal is positioned parallel to the timing case cover.

Remove special tool 11 8 815  .

Fasten special tool 11 9 182  with special tool 11 9 184  on the crankshaft.

Prepare special tool 11 9 181  for installation.

Connect special tool 2 360 215  onto special tool 11 9 181  .

Attention! 

Risk of damage to crankshaft sensor.

Check for freedom of movement between the special tool 11 8 813  and the crankshaft sensor during the installation.

Pull on radial shaft seal with special tool 11 9 181  and 2 360 215  in combination with special tool 11 9 183  .

Screw in the radial shaft seal up to limit position with the tool (1).
