11 14 005 Replacing front crankshaft seal (B48B)

Special tools required: 

• 2 298 505 
• 11 8 801 
• 11 8 800 
• 11 8 802 
• 11 8 803 

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove VIBRATION DAMPER 

Removal: 

Drive in the crankshaft seal (1) by approx. 1 cm in the marked area by using a punch.

Use special tool 2 298 505  to lift out the crankshaft seal (1).

Do not scratch sealing surface against engine block.

Installation: 

Attention! 

The radial shaft seal must be installed dry.

Do not use engine oil or lubricant.

Clean special tool 11 8 801  from the set of special tools 11 8 800  and coat with fresh engine oil.

Secure special tool 11 8 801  using special tool 11 8 802  from the set of special tools 11 8 800  to the crankshaft.

Attention! 

Touching the sealing lip (on the inside) of the crankshaft seal is not permitted.

Coating the outside of the crankshaft seal with oil is not permitted.

Carefully slide the crankshaft seal (1) straight and in a rotational movement  onto special tool 11 8 801  from the set of special tools 11 8 800  until it is flush with the crankcase.

Position the sleeve 11 8 803  from the set of special tools 11 8 800  and screw it hand-tight using the nut.

Screw in the sleeve 11 8 803  from the set of special tools 11 8 800  into the tool (1) until it is flush in contact with the crankcase.

Required follow-up work: 

• Install VIBRATION DAMPER 
• Check engine for leak tightness
