12 42 500 Replacing positive battery cable between starter motor, alternator and positive battery connection point (B48)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Disconnect the BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD .
• Remove the CORROSION PROTECTION COVER .
• Remove the ELECTRONICS BOX .
• Remove reinforcement plate. (all-wheel drive vehicle) 
• Remove the FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Remove the REAR UNDERBODY PROTECTION .

Removal: 

Positive battery cable overview B48 

Release positive battery cable (1) along the arrows.

Slacken nut (1).

Feed out positive battery cable (2) and place to one side.

Release clamp (3).

Unlock cover (1) and release.

Release screw (2).

Feed out positive battery cable (3) and remove.

Slacken nut (1).

Feed out positive battery cable (2) and place to one side.

Release positive battery cable (1) from clamps (2) and remove.

Installation:

Feed in positive battery cable (1) along arrows and install.

Feed positive battery cable (1) into clamps (2) and install.

Feed in and install positive battery cable (1).

Bring turning protection (2) of the positive battery cable (1) on the starter motor to the limit position (3).

Tighten nut (4).

Tightening torque, refer to: 12 42 2AZ .

Feed in and install positive battery cable (3).

Connect positive battery cable (3) and tighten screw (2).

Tightening torque, refer to: 12 52 9AZ .

Feed in and lock cover (1).

Cover (1) must audibly snap into place.

Feed in and install positive battery cable (2).

Secure clamp (3).

Tighten nut (1).

Tightening torque, refer to: 12 42 1AZ .

Required follow-up work: 

• Install the CORROSION PROTECTION COVER .
• Install the FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Install the REAR UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Install reinforcement plate. (all-wheel drive vehicle) 
• Install the ELECTRONICS BOX .
• Connect the BATTERY EARTH LEAD .
