18 12 046 Replacing front silencer

Call on the assistance of a second person to remove the center silencer.

Call on the assistance of a second person to remove the center silencer.
Attention!
Wear safety goggles and protective gloves.
Conduct all work in appropriate personal protective equipment only.
Swarf resulting from sawing or grinding components could get into your eyes.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove the TENSION STRUT.
- Remove the REAR RIGHT TENSION STRUT.
- Support front silencer with a suitable jack and secure against falling down.
Removal:
NOTE:
If the cutting line is not marked by a punch mark in the pipe, determine the separation point by means of the pipe length on the new front silencer (1).
Transfer separation point to faulty front silencer (1) and mark out.
Secure front silencer (1) against falling off.
Cut through exhaust pipes at marked point with a suitable tool and deburr.
Transfer separation point to faulty front silencer (1) and mark out.
Secure front silencer (1) against falling off.
Cut through exhaust pipes at marked point with a suitable tool and deburr.
Slacken nut (1).
Slacken ribbon clamp (2).
Feed out front silencer (1) and remove.
Installation:
Feed in front silencer (1) and install.
Tighten nut (1).
Tightening torque, refer to: 18 20 2AZ .
Tighten ribbon clamp (2).
Tightening torque, refer to: 18 20 1 AZ .
Connect the new front silencer (1) with the clamp (2) to the rear silencer (3).
Center the clamp (2) and tighten down.
Tightening torque, refer to: 18 20 4AZ .
Required follow-up work:
- Install the tension strut.
- Install rear right tension strut.
- Check exhaust system for leak tightness.
