24 34 569 Replacing Mechatronics (GA8HP50Z)

Special tools required:

24 1 430
24 2 390
2 355 850

IMPORTANT:

Do not let skin come in contact with transmission oil and do not inhale fuel vapors.
Wear protective gloves.
Ensure adequate ventilation.

NOTE: After completing repair work:

Load specific data status with the BMW diagnosis system

IMPORTANT: After completion of repair work, CHECK TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL .
Use only APPROVED TRANSMISSION OIL .
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission.

IMPORTANT: Read and comply with notes on PROTECTION AGAINST DAMAGE FROM ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD PROTECTION).

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove the rear UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Remove the TRANSMISSION OIL SUMP .
Remove the HYDRAULIC IMPULSE STORAGE .

Removal:

Pull journal of the selector shaft (1) towards the bottom with special tool 2 355 850 (3).

Install special tool 2 355 850 (2) between journal of the selector shaft (1) and transmission housing.

IMPORTANT: Mechatronics can be destroyed by static discharges. Therefore the contacts inside the connector must not be touched. Insert special tool immediately after operation.

Unlock and disconnect connector (1) by turning.

Insert special tool 24 2 390 in sealing cup (1).

Release screw (1) and unlock sealing cup with slide (2).

Note position of sealing sleeve (1).

Pull out sealing cup (1).

Release screws (1) from screw connection sequence positions 4 and 9 from Mechatronics.

Install special tool 24 1 430 .

Tighten wing nuts.

Unfasten screws (2).

Pull output speed sensor (3) out of housing and insert into module recess.

Release screws (1).

Release wing nuts from special tool 24 1 430 .

Remove Mechatronics.

Remove pressure pipe (1).

Installation:

Parts: Replace pressure pipe.

Install pressure pipe (1).

Fit Mechatronics unit.

Thread shift dog (1) into gearshift shaft (2).

Install Mechatronics.

Tighten wing nuts from special tool 24 1 430 on as far as they will go onto Mechatronics.

Position screws (1) and tighten slightly.

Pull selector shaft journal (1) down with special tool 2 355 850 (3).

Remove special tool 2 355 850 (2).

Insert output speed sensor (3) to limit position.

Position screws (2) and tighten slightly.

Loosen wing nuts.

Remove special tool 24 1 430 .

Position screws (1) and tighten slightly.

Parts: Replace sealing sleeve.

Fit sealing sleeve in position (lug on inner surface).

Turn sealing sleeve until lug is threaded into groove of transmission.

Slide sealing sleeve in to limit position.

Lug on sealing cup must not be damaged!

Remove special tool 24 2 390 .

Lock slide (2).

Position screw (1) and tighten slightly.

Tightening torque 24 30 4AZ .

Insert plug connector (1) and lock by turning.

IMPORTANT: Tighten bolts in order 1... 17.
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission.
Tightening torque 24 30 4AZ Mechatronics to transmission.
Tightening torque 24 30 7AZ output speed sensor position 17 to transmission.

Required follow-up work:

Install the HYDRAULIC IMPULSE STORAGE .
Install the TRANSMISSION OIL SUMP .
Adjust the TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL .
Install the UNDERBODY PROTECTION at rear.
