51 24 350 Removing and installing/replacing left spindle drive (automatic luggage compartment lid actuation) (X6 2015-2019)

WARNING: Danger of injury!
Support tailgate in fully opened position with suitable device.

WARNING: Observe the warnings on the spindle drive!
Electric spindle drive for tailgate is under mechanical spring preload!
The component must be secured against falling down.

CAUTION: Risk of damage to spindle drive!
If spindle drive has been electrically disabled (e.g. connector unplugged) the tailgate must only be moved slowly by hand.

These repair instructions are based on the DISASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION OF BALL SOCKETS WITH CLAMP .

Necessary preliminary work:

Determine and note down OPENING HEIGHT OF AUTOMATIC LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID ACTUATION .
Adjust tailgate to maximum opening angle. The spindle drive may be removed and installed only when the tailgate is opened all the way.
Remove D-PILLAR TRIM PANEL .

Removal:

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Feed out the rubber grommet (1) including wiring harness.

Remove clamps from ball sockets (2) and remove spindle drive (3).

Installation:

Install spindle drive (3) and engage ball sockets (2).

Thread rubber grommet (1) in with wiring harness.

NOTE: Rubber hose with rubber grommet (1) must not be damaged.

Install rubber grommet (1) correctly to prevent water ingress.

Required follow-up work:

Mount D-PILLAR TRIM PANEL .

Concluding tasks:

Initialize automatic operation of tailgate using the corresponding service function in the diagnosis system.

Check the opening angle setting of the tailgate and restore the customer setting, if necessary.
