Removing and installing/replacing left rail (N63 B40/B44 O 1, S63 B44 T 2) (X6 M)

WARNING: Electric fuel pump starts up automatically when door is opened!
Observe warning on cylinder head cover!
Disconnect NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (risk of fire due to short-circuiting on dismantling).
Carry out installation work on fuel system only with coolant temperature below 40°C!

CAUTION: Wear full face protection and protective gloves! Fuel can emerge spontaneously at high speed when the high pressure line is released!

CAUTION: Adhere to conditions of absolute cleanliness when carrying out repair work on the high-pressure fuel system! Introduced contaminants can cause malfunctions in the system!

Do not allow any dirt particles or foreign bodies to get into the system.
Remove all traces of dirt contamination before removing lines or separate components.
Use only lint-free cloths.
Seal all fuel system openings with protective caps or plugs.

CAUTION: Screw back on all screw points of cable channels without fail! Some screw points are also ground points .If the wiring harnesses are not correctly screwed tight and secured, this may cause DME malfunction and failure!

Recycling!

Fuel escapes when fuel line is detached. Catch and dispose of escaping fuel.

Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.

Necessary preliminary work:

Read out the fault memory of the DME control unit. If necessary, work through test plans.
Switch off ignition.
Remove ACOUSTIC COVER .
Remove IGNITION COILS FOR CYLINDERS 5-8 .

Unlock and disconnect the connectors (2) from the injectors with a small slotted screwdriver (1).

Unlock the lock in the direction of the arrow with a small slotted screwdriver (1). Disconnect the connector (2) on the connector housing from the injector.

Unlock connector from rail pressure sensor and pull off.

Unlock and pull off connector from injectors.

Release screws (1).

Loosen wiring harnesses (2) from cylinder head cover and place to one side.

CAUTION: Screw back on all screw points of cable channels without fail. Some screw points are also ground points .

Loosen nuts (1) on injectors.

Release nut (2) on high pressure pump.

Unfasten screws (3).

Remove rail.

Installation note:

First insert the rail at the pump connector (2), then lower to the point where the ball heads are positioned inside the injector cones and the rail is correctly positioned.

Then tighten the nuts (1) on the injectors so they are hand-tight. Next, hand-tighten the nut (2) of the high pressure pump. Lastly, mount screws (3) and hand-tighten.

Observe screwing sequence!

Tighten screws (3) on rail. Tightening torque 13 53 1AZ .
Tighten nuts (1) on the injectors. Tightening torque 13 53 2AZ .
Tighten nut (2) on the high pressure pump. Tightening torque 13 53 3AZ .

CAUTION: Screw back on all screw points of cable channels without fail. Some screw points are also ground points .

Mount the wiring harnesses (2) on the cylinder head cover.

Connect the connector to the rail pressure sensor and lock it audibly.

Connect the connectors to the injectors. They must lock audibly.

Tighten screws (1).

Tightening torque 12 51 2AZ .

Check all connectors (1) on the injectors again for correct fit and make sure that all connectors have noticeably engaged.

NOTE: Assemble engine.

Check fuel system for leak tightness.

Delete the fault memory.
