17 11 035 Removing and installing/replacing fan cowl with electric fan (N57)

When the engine is stopped after the end of the journey, operation of the electric fan may be necessary. In rare cases, operation of the electric fan can last up to 11 min. This is for component protection. In this context, renewing the electric fan will not remedy the problem!

Necessary preliminary work:

Read out the fault memory of the DME control unit.
Switch off ignition.
Remove INTAKE PORT .
Remove UNDERBODY PROTECTION

Unclip Bowden cable for engine compartment lid release from transverse reinforcement.

Loosen screws (1). Renew screws.

Tightening torque 17 10 4AZ .

Remove transverse reinforcement (2).

Release the refrigerant line (1) from the fan cowl.

Unlock connector (1) and pull off.

Release coolant hose (1) from the fan cowl at the bottom.

Press lock (1).

Raise fan cowl (2) until holder (3) can be folded into center of vehicle.

NOTE: For a better general overview, graphic and description are without coolant hose.

Do not raise fan cowl by fan wheel.

Press lock (1).

Feed out fan cowl (2) towards top and remove.

Installation note:

Insert retaining tab (1) at bottom on module carrier.

NOTE: Check saved fault code entry.

Reassemble the vehicle.

Delete the fault memory.
