41 61 071 Removing And Installing/Replacing Hinge For Left Engine Compartment Lid (Active Pedestrian Protection)

WARNING:

Danger of injury!

Adhere to the applicable SAFETY INFORMATION so as to avoid a danger of injury by the actuator.

The battery earth lead must be clamped off prior to work on the hinge or engine compartment lid. See DISCONNECTING/CONNECTING BATTERY EARTH LEAD or DISCONNECT/CONNECT BATTERY EARTH LEAD (PLUG-IN HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE) .

Use suitable tool to support bonnet in the fully opened position.

Call on the assistance of a second person to remove the hinge.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Disconnect battery earth lead. See DISCONNECTING/CONNECTING BATTERY EARTH LEAD or DISCONNECT/CONNECT BATTERY EARTH LEAD (PLUG-IN HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE) .

Remove GAS PRESSURE SPRING FOR ENGINE COMPARTMENT LID .

Remove ACTUATOR (active pedestrian protection)

Remove MICROFILTER HOUSING COVER .

Position suitable cloth under engine compartment lid without gaps.

IMPORTANT: Secure engine compartment lid with a second person!
After nuts have been slackened no lateral forces must be exerted on the engine compartment lid!

Unscrew nuts (1).

Tightening torque 41 61 1AZ .

Release screws (1) and remove hinge.

Tightening torque 41 61 2AZ .

Installation note:

ADJUST hinge together with engine compartment lid.
