51 31 200 Removing and installing rear window

Special tools required: 

IMPORTANT:

Removal is performed with ROLL OUT 2000 .

The following new parts/CONSUMABLES  are required (sourcing reference BMW Parts Department).

Material Quantity
Rear window (with replacement) 1
Spacer buffer 5x5x20 mm 4
Velcro fastener 8
Small repair kit 1

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Disconnect all plug connections (1) and secure cable to rear window with adhesive tape.

Version after 01/2015: 

Release screw (2) and remove ground cable from the tailgate.

Installation note: 

For vehicles with version 01/2012 no attachment point for the ground cable (1) is available.

During installation of a rear window to a ground cable (1), the ground cable must be wrapped with a adhesive tape and fixed to the wiring harness with a cable strap (2).

IMPORTANT: Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).

Push wire starter from ROLL OUT 2000  through adhesive bead in area (1).

IMPORTANT:

Risk of damage!

When cutting in area (1), insert the plastic guard from the ROLL OUT 2000  between the cutting wire and the tailgate.

Installation of the spacer buffers/Velcro fasteners: 

IMPORTANT:

Spacer buffers (1) and Velcro fasteners (2) are installed to prevent rear window breakage.

Completely remove damaged spacer buffers (1) and Velcro fasteners (2).

Bond new spacer buffers (1) and Velcro fasteners (2) to the markings.

Overview of rear window bonding:

a  [mm] = Position adhesive bead 3 ±1
b  [mm] = Width adhesive bead 7 ±1
h  [mm] = Height adhesive bead 11 -2

Replace faulty Velcro fasteners (1) on left and right.

NOTE: A tolerance band is printed on the ceramic (two dashed lines) that marks the position of the adhesive bead. Place adhesive bead centrally on tolerance band.

Bead joint must be located in area (A).

Installation note:
