51 11 770 Removing and installing/replacing front left or right deformation element for bumper

NOTE: Work is described for left deformation element.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove left HEADLIGHT
Remove INTAKE DUCT
Remove IMPACT ABSORBER

AFGS (ACTIVE PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION) PROCEDURE AFTER ACCIDENT

Unscrew bolt (1) on right headlight.

Tightening torque 63 12 1AZ .

Pull out cover (1) on left and right.

Slacken nut (1).

Tightening torque 51 11 11AZ .

Unscrew bolt (2) and remove support (3).

Tightening torque 51 11 12AZ .

NOTE: Carry out work on the left side in the same way as for the right side illustrated here.

Right side only:

Release screws (4).

Diesel versions only:

Release screws (5).

Release screws (1).

NOTE: Carry out work on the left side in the same way as for the right side illustrated here.

Left side:

Unlock plug connections (1) and disconnect.

Unclip wiring loom from support member if necessary.

Unfasten screws (2).

Tightening torque 51 11 5AZ .

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Unfasten any other cable retainers as necessary.

Maneuver out front panel complete with air duct (2), support member (3) and deformation element (4).

Undo screws (1) from rear.

Remove air duct (2).

Unscrew bolts (1) and remove support member from deformation element.

Tightening torque 51 11 4AZ .

Unscrew nut (2) and remove twin-tone horn and bracket.

Unscrew bolts (3) and remove bracket from deformation element.

Tightening torque 51 11 6AZ .

Remove fixings (4).

Unscrew bolts (5) and remove sensor from bracket.
