65 76 625 Removing and installing (replacing) pedestrian protection sensor (optical fiber)

WARNING: Observe SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS for handling gas generators.
Incorrect handling can activate pedestrian protection and cause injury.

IMPORTANT:

AFGS (ACTIVE PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION) PROCEDURE AFTER ACCIDENT

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove FRONT BUMPER PANEL

The impact absorber must not be reused.

Release expansion rivet (1).

Unlock plug connection (1) on left and right and disconnect.

Remove impact absorber (2).

Installation note:

First attach impact absorber (2) at the bottom and then press on at the top.

NOTE: Diagram similar.

Remove optical fiber sensor (1) from impact absorber (2).

Dispose of the impact absorber (2). The impact absorber (2) must not be reused.

IMPORTANT: Fiber-optic cable (1) must be correctly routed in impact absorber (2).
Check the new impact absorber (2) for damage to the retaining lugs.
Do not fit damaged impact absorbers (2).
