Checking function of vacuum system (S63T) (X5 M)

Attention! 

Observe the sequence of the diagnosis instructions in the ISID: 

Depending on the fault pattern, the order of operations in the repair instructions may be different from the order of operations in the ISID  .

Carry out procedure to check the vacuum system.

Preliminary work needed: 

• Remove ACOUSTIC COVER .
• Remove FAN COWL with electric fan.

Vacuum pump is fitted on the cylinder head cover 1 to 4 at rear on intake camshaft.

Check the vacuum effect of the vacuum pump  .

Detach vacuum line (1) from the vacuum pump (2).

Install vacuum hose (I M IB accessory) 81 31 2 468 782 (previously: 81 31 2 357 800 or 81 38 2 201 924).

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Check vacuum generation in system  .

Disconnect vacuum line (1) to exhaust flap at the left-hand shock tower.

Connect the engine-side vacuum line (1) with the vacuum hose (IMIB accessory) 81 31 2 468 782 (previously: 81 31 2 357 800 or 81 38 2 201 924).

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Functional check of the exhaust flaps  .

Check the function of the exhaust flap (1) on both rear silencers (2).

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Leakage test of the tubing leading to the exhaust flaps  .

Check the tubing leading to the exhaust flaps for leaks.

Disconnect the vacuum line (1) using the pliers (2) as shown in the graphic.

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Check leakage test of the tubing on the vacuum reservoir  .

Disconnect the vacuum line (1) on the vacuum reservoir (2).

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Check the wastegate valve holder and linkage  .

Check the wastegate linkage (1) on the exhaust turbocharger for free movement.

Vacuum line (1) to the vacuum reservoir  .

Disconnect the vacuum line (1) at the T-piece and at the connection to the vacuum reservoir.

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Loosen the vacuum line (1) on the vacuum reservoir (2).

Vacuum line (1) to the vacuum pump  .

Close the vacuum line (1) at the T-piece using a sealing cap (2).

Connect the vacuum hose (IMIB accessory) 81 31 2 468 782 (previously: 81 31 2 357 800 or 81 38 2 201 924) at the T-piece.

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Vacuum line (1) to the vacuum reservoir and pressure converter  .

Disconnect the vacuum line (1) at the T-piece and connect with vacuum hose (IMIB accessory) 81 31 2 46 782 (previously: 81 31 2 357 800 or 81 38 2 201 924).

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Pressure converter connections 

Disconnect the vacuum hose at the connection (VAC = vacuum reservoir).

Disconnect the vacuum hose at the connection (OUT = exhaust turbocharger vacuum actuator).

Installation note: 

The pressure converter for cylinders 1-4 (OUT) is equipped with a fabric hose.

The pressure converter for cylinders 5-8 (OUT) is equipped with a molded hose.

Check the function of the wastegate valve holder  .

Detach the vacuum line (1) from the pressure converter plug connection (OUT).

Connect the vacuum line (1) with the vacuum line (2) of the vacuum reservoir using a T-piece and vacuum line (IMIB accessory) 81 31 2 468 782 (previously: 81 31 2 357 800 or 81 38 2 201 924).
