41 63 060 Removing And Installing Soft Top Compartment Lid

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Connect battery charger.
Stow soft top in soft top compartment.
Remove striker for tailgate catch. See 51 24 130 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING STRIKER FOR TAILGATE LOCK .

Close tailgate lock.

NOTE: Closing the lock is necessary so that the soft top system remains ready for operation.

Close rear lid.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
Fully close the tailgate
In the next work operation the soft top compartment lid is opened.
If the tailgate is not fully closed, contact damaged may be caused to both components during opening of the soft top compartment lid.

Open the soft top compartment lid as shown.

Switch off the ignition and secure the soft top compartment lid against lowering.

IMPORTANT: Danger of injury by trapping!
After the ignition has been switched off the soft stop system is depressurized after approx. 20 seconds.
The soft top compartment lid then lowers automatically.

Loosen the ball sockets of the hydraulic cylinder at the TOP OF THE SOFT TOP COMPARTMENT LID (1) .

Press the hydraulic cylinders (1) together and stow them on clean cloths (2) in the soft top compartment. (risk of dirt for soft top)

Close the soft top compartment lid as far as is possible by hand.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
The soft top is not to be moved for as long as the hydraulic cylinders of the soft top compartment lid are not fastened to the soft top compartment lid, rather stowed in the soft top compartment.
Immobilise the soft stop system.

Immobilise the soft stop system:

Open tailgate. Attention! When opening the tailgate make sure that the tailgate does not knock against the soft top compartment lid.

Remove the fuse box cover.

Remove retainer (1).

(Fuse 40 A, according to connection diagram fuse no. 182 for hydraulic unit electric motor)

Operation is described on the left side. Right side identical.

Release screws (1).

Pull out and remove soft top compartment lid with assistance of a second person.

Tightening torque 41 63 1AZ .
To pre-adjust, mount the soft top compartment lid at the screw impressions on the hinge.

Adjust soft top compartment lid. See 41 63 068 ADJUSTING SOFT TOP COMPARTMENT LID .
Read out fault memory and delete entered faults.
