17 22 010 Removing and installing/replacing transmission oil cooler for automatic transmission (230i and 230i xDrive coupe/convertible)
Only perform this repair work after engine has cooled down.
Necessary preliminary work:
- Refer to DRAINING HIGH-TEMPERATURE COOLANT .
- Refer to REMOVING AIR INTAKE PLENUM .
- Remove reinforcement plate. (All-wheel drive vehicle)
- Refer to REMOVING REAR UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Recycling
Catch and dispose of drained coolant in a suitable collecting vessel.
Transmission oil emerges when fluid lines are detached from transmission oil cooler.
Catch and dispose of escaping transmission oil in a suitable container.
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.
Removal:
Loosen the screws along the arrows.
Remove connecting rod (1).
Unlock and release fuel line (1).
Unlock and release clamp (2).
Unscrew nut (3).
Remove guard plate (4).
Unlock coolant line (1) and release.
Collect and dispose of escaping coolant.
Unlock transmission oil lines (1) and release.
Unlock coolant line (2) and release.
Loosen screws (3).
Release screw (4).
Remove heat exchanger (5).
Installation:
Install heat exchanger (5).
Tighten screw (3).
Tightening torque 17 22 2AZ .
Tighten down screws (4).
Tightening torque 17 22 2AZ .
Connect and lock transmission oil lines (1).
Transmission oil lines (1) must audibly engage.
Connect coolant line (2) and lock.
Coolant line (2) must audibly engage.
Connect coolant line (1) and lock.
Coolant line (1) must audibly engage.
Install protective plate (4).
Tighten nut (3).
Connect and lock fuel line (1).
Connect clamp (2) and lock.
Clamp (2) must audibly snap into place.
Install connecting rod (1).
Tighten screws along arrows.
Tightening torque 12 41 2AZ .
Required follow-up work:
- Refer to INSTALLING INTAKE PLENUM .
- Refer to TOPPING UP HIGH-TEMPERATURE COOLANT .
- Refer to CHECKING OIL LEVEL in automatic transmission. If necessary, top up automatic transmission fluid.
- Install reinforcement plate. (All-wheel drive vehicle)
- Refer to INSTALLING THE REAR UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
