Removing and installing/replacing left or right deformation element for front bumper panel (2016-2022)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove FRONT-END STRUT .
• Remove BRACING STRUT .
• Remove the SUPPORT FOR THE FRONT BOTTOM BUMPER PANEL .
• Remove FRONT WHEEL ARCH COVER (FRONT SECTION) .
• Remove headlight. Refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING (REPLACING) LEFT (XENON) HEADLIGHT (M2) or REMOVING AND INSTALLING (REPLACING) THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT (XENON) (M2) .

Removal: 

Release screws (1) and (2).

Lay the engine compartment lock (3) on the top.

Left side only: 

Remove air duct (1).

Release screws (1) from below.

Unlock plug connections (1) and disconnect.

Detach cable clip from lock support (2).

Loosen screws (3).

Detach holder (4) from the lock support (2).

Leave holder (4) with the radiator hanging on the vehicle.

Release screws (1) and (2).

Feed out the deformation element (3).

Installation: 

Replacement: 

Release screws (1) on both sides and remove bracket (2).

Tightening torque 51 11 2AZ .

Release screws (3) and remove lower deformation element.

Tightening torque 51 11 5AZ .

When replacing lower deformation element: 

Release blind rivet from damper (4).

Insert the deformation elements (3) and check that are seated correctly.

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 51 11 3AZ .

Tighten screw (2).

Tightening torque 51 11 6AZ .

Attach holder (4) in the lock support (2).

Tighten down screws (3).

Tightening torque 51 11 2AZ .

Connect the connector (1).

Clip cable clip into the lock support (2).

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 51 11 2AZ .

Left side only:

Insert bonnet lock (3).

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 51 23 1AZ .

Tighten down screws (2).

Tightening torque 51 11 14AZ .

Required follow-up work: 

• Mount the FRONT-END STRUT .
• Mount the BRACING STRUT .
• Install FRONT BOTTOM SUPPORT FOR BUMPER PANEL .
• Mount the headlight. Refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING (REPLACING) LEFT (XENON) HEADLIGHT (M2) or REMOVING AND INSTALLING (REPLACING) THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT (XENON) (M2) .
• Mount the FRONT WHEEL ARCH COVER (FRONT SECTION) .
