51 16 165 Removing and installing/replacing complete center console

Necessary preliminary tasks:

The following parts must be removed as preliminary work.

The sequence of removal corresponds to the numbering.

1	Refer to: REAR CENTER CONSOLE COVER
2	Release the GAITER FOR PARKING BRAKE LEVER from center console
3	Refer to: DECORATIVE TRIM ON CENTER CONSOLE
4	Automatic transmission, refer to: TRIM FOR PRESELECTOR LEVER  Manual gearbox: Gaiter
5	Refer to: CENTER CONSOLE OPERATING UNIT
6	Remove the CENTER CONSOLE COVER
7	Automatic transmissions only, refer to: GEAR SELECTOR SWITCH

• Remove the GEAR SELECTOR SWITCH

Unscrew nuts (1).

Tightening torque, refer to: 51 16 3AZ .

Disconnect plug connections (2), depending on version.

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque, refer to: 51 16 4AZ .

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque, refer to: 51 16 3AZ .

Detach wiring harness (2) from central console mount.

Raise the center console (1) rear and feed out gaiter (2).

If necessary, release further plug connections and cable clips from below on center console (1).

Remove center console (1) to the rear/top.

Installation note: 

Feed center console (1) correctly into dashboard including guides (4).

Fit center console (1) on the side correctly at rear of trim panel for pedal mechanism and trim panel at bottom of dashboard.

Make sure wiring harness (3) is in correct position.

Replacement (depending on version): 

• Modify air ducts (1)
• Modify retaining bracket (2)
• Modify the SIDE COVER 
• Change over CENTER ARMREST .
• Modify the INSERT IN STORAGE COMPARTMENT 
• Modify the BASE PLATE for telephone
• Modify the LED
