41 62 014 Adjusting Tailgate
Minor corrections (realignment work) are permitted if the existing adjustment options are not sufficient.
Read contents of BODY, GENERAL .
For stripping and rigging operations, refer to texts on KSD CD (FRU number 41 62 014).
Observe gap dimensions; refer to GAP DIMENSIONS, BODY .
The tailgate must be provided with all attachment parts for correct adjustment.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove tailgate trim panel; refer to 51 49 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING TRIM FOR REAR LID .
Slacken screws (1) until such stage that the tailgate can still be moved.
Adjust tailgate laterally and longitudinally.
Tightening torque: refer to TAILGATE .
When the tailgate is closed, the striker must not touch or scrape against the tailgate lock. If necessary, remove striker.
View of trim panel for storage shelf from luggage compartment:
Press grommet (1) through and pull out toward the bottom with long-nose pliers.
Installation note:
Replace damaged grommet.
Install the grommet contrary to series assembly from the bottom.
Slacken nut (1) with a suitable tool (SW13) until the hinge can be moved.
Adjust height of tailgate.
Tightening torque: refer to TAILGATE .
Adjust tailgate catch; refer to ADJUSTING REAR LID LOCK .
Adjust stop pad; refer to ADJUSTING/REPLACING BUMP STOPS (FRONT) .
After Installation note:
- Tighten all screws and nuts to specified torque; refer to the appropriate service information.
- Touch up unpainted surfaces in the appropriate color.
