51 24 004 Adjusting rear lid lock

Special tools required: 

Prerequisite: 

Rear lid must be correctly adjusted to fit; if necessary, adjust rear lid - refer to .

For ideal adjustment, refer to GAP DIMENSIONS, BODY .

Screw in stop pad (1) on tailgate at left and right all the way.

Lever out protective caps (1) with special tool 64 1 020.

Slacken screws (1) until striker (2) can still just be moved and centers itself.

IMPORTANT: Striker (2) must not brush against rear lid lock.

Close tailgate.

Check the BODY GAP DIMENSIONS and locking comfort.

If necessary, repeat procedure.

NOTE: When the tailgate is closed, the striker must not touch or scrape against the tailgate lock. Look out for scratch marks.

Open tailgate.

Tighten down screws (2).

Tightening torque, refer to: 51 24 2AZ .

Screw out stop pads (1) left/right until they are in contact with cover for tail panel.

Corresponding resistance must be noticeable when pulling out a paper strip from between tailgate and stop pad (1).

Then screw out stop pad (1) approx. half a rotation further.

Check closing comfort and if necessary, correct setting of stop pad (1).

NOTE: Stop pads that are screwed out too far impede closing comfort.
Stop pads that are not screwed out enough can cause the tailgate to "rattle".

Equipment specification with rear view camera: 

After adjusting, check rear view camera and if necessary RECALIBRATE .
