Removing and installing or replacing alternator (S63 B44 T 2) (X6 M)

Necessary preliminary work:

Switch off ignition.
Disconnect BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD .
Remove ACOUSTIC COVER .
Remove front left WHEEL ARCH COVER (front section).
Remove PRESSURE SENSOR from charge air cooler at left.
Release DRIVE BELT for alternator from alternator.
Drain COOLANT .

Attention!

Risk of damage!

Cover radiator.

Removal:

Release clamps (1).

Place holder for auxiliary coolant pump to one side.

Release nuts (1) and place oil reservoir for hydraulic pump (2) to one side.

Release clamp (1) at bottom from throttle body.

Release clamp (1) and detach coolant hose from charge air cooler.

Unlock and detach coolant hose (2).

Catch and dispose of escaping coolant.

Detach tank vent valve (3) from charge air cooler and place to one side.

Release and detach the coolant hose (1) at bottom from left charge air cooler.

Release and detach coolant hose (1) at left from radiator.

Set coolant hose (1) aside.

Detach left charge air cooler (1) forward from exhaust turbocharger.

Feed charge air cooler (1) out upwards and remove.

Detach right charge air cooler (1) forward only from exhaust turbocharger.

Partly detach charge air cooler at right (1), do, not remove it.

Release nut at bottom of cover (1).

Remove positive battery cable from alternator and place to one side.

Release bolts (1) at left and right from alternator.

Pull alternator (1) forward slightly until the connector (2) is accessible.

Unlock connector (2) and remove.

Feed out alternator (1) forwards and remove.

Installation:

Feed in alternator (1) and install.

Fit connector (2) to alternator and lock.

Connector (2) must snap audibly into place.

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 12 31 1AZ .

Connect positive battery cable to alternator.

Tighten nut on positive battery cable.

Tightening torque 12 41 1AZ .

Reinstall cover (1) without fail risk of short circuiting!

Connect charge air cooler at right (1) to exhaust turbocharger.

Feed in charge air cooler at left (1).

Connect left charge air cooler (1) to throttle body and exhaust turbocharger.

Connect coolant hose (1) at left to radiator.

The coolant hose (1) must audibly engage.

Part: Replace clamp (1).

Connect coolant hose to charge air cooler and fasten with clamp (1).

Connect and lock coolant hose (2).

The coolant hose (2) must engage audibly.

Mount tank vent valve (3) to charge air cooler.

Tighten clamp (1) at bottom on throttle body.

Tightening torque 13 71 7AZ .

Required follow-up work:

Install the ACOUSTIC COVER .
Install PRESSURE SENSOR onto charge air cooler at left.
Install front WHEEL ARCH COVER (front section), left.
Mount DRIVE BELT FOR ALTERNATOR onto alternator.
Top up COOLANT and vent cooling system.
Top up COOLANT FOR CHARGE AIR COOLER and bleed.
Connect BATTERY EARTH LEAD .
