41 62 030 Adjusting Rear Lid Upper Section

IMPORTANT: Do not damage adjoining body components.
Minor corrections (realignment work) are permitted if the existing adjustment options are not sufficient.

Observe 41 00... BODY GAP DIMENSIONS .

The rear lid upper section must be provided with all attachment parts for correct adjustment.

Equipment specification with automatic tailgate operation:

Stop the automatic operation of tailgate by DISCONNECTING THE PLUG CONNECTIONS on tailgate trim panel.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage to spindle drive: only move tailgate slowly by hand.
If necessary, REMOVE SPINDLE DRIVE .

The following consumable is required for setting: PLASTIC ADHESIVE TAPE YELLOW .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Adjust REAR LID LOWER SECTION to fit.
Remove REAR SPOILER .
Remove GAS-FILLED SHOCK ABSORBER .
Remove STRIKER .

Operation described here for the left side, work is identical for the right side.

Adjusting tailgate laterally and in longitudinal direction:

Slacken screws (1) on rear lid hinge to tailgate until the tailgate can still just be moved. Tightening torque 41 62 1AZ .

Adjust tailgate laterally and longitudinally.

Height adjustment of tailgate in relation to roof outer skin and side panel:

Check the hinge of tailgate (1) for damage, renew, if required.

Check limit position of tailgate (1) on body for damage, renew, if required.

Height adjustment of roof outer skin:

Slacken screws (1) until such stage that the tailgate can still be moved.

Adjust the tailgate to the height of roof outer skin.

Tightening torque 41 62 2AZ .

Place STRIKER .

Height adjustment to side panel:

Remove protective cap (hidden). Loosen the screw (2) below far enough that the hinge (1) can still be moved. Tightening torque 41 62 6AZ .

Remove FLAP IN LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM PANEL and slacken lock nut (1).

Pre-adjustment: Adjust the stop pad (2) by turning in such a manner that tailgate has 0.5 - 1.0 mm short length to side panel.

Hand-tighten the lock nut (1).

Pre-adjustment check: Fold the yellow plastic adhesive tape (1) 1 x and place it on stop pad. Close tailgate.

Stop pad is correctly preset, if plastic adhesive tape can be pulled out easily with less resistance.

Final setting: Open tailgate and unscrew stop pad (2) 3/4 up to 1 turn. The unscrewing of the stop pad depends on the amount it extends below or above the side panel and on the closing noise of tailgate.

Tighten the lock nut (1) of stop pad.

Tightening torque 41 62 6AZ .

Adjust hinge (1) by moving in the direction of arrow. Tighten screw (2). Tightening torque 41 62 6AZ .

Check the setting: Place the plastic adhesive tape (1) on the hinge and close the tailgate.

The hinge is adjusted correctly if the plastic adhesive tape can be pulled out by "suction".

Required reworking:

Tighten all screws and nuts to specified torque.
Install REAR SPOILER
Install GAS-FILLED SHOCK ABSORBER .
Equipment specification with automatic tailgate operation:
Install. SPINDLE DRIVE .

Start up automatic operation of tailgate by CONNECTING THE PLUG CONNECTION to tailgate trim panel.
If reversing camera optional equipment installed:
Calibrate REVERSING CAMERA .
Touch up unpainted surfaces in the appropriate color.
