61 21 010 Remove and install or replace battery (Hybrid)

WARNING: High-voltage system - danger to life!
The following points must be strictly observed prior to starting work :
De-energize the HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM .
Observe SAFETY INFORMATION for handling hybrid cars.

WARNING: Observe the SAFETY INFORMATION for handling the battery.
Observe instructions for DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING THE BATTERY .
Observe the notes on the (IBS) .

To ensure the correct safety and convenience functions, install only the original battery (battery size and type) stored in the vehicle order. OBSERVE NOTE ON BATTERY REPLACEMENT .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX
Disconnect NEGATIVE BATTERY LEAD

Fold back cover (1).

Slacken nut on safety battery terminal (2).

Tightening torque 61 21 1AZ .

Pull off the gas vent line (3).

IMPORTANT: Do not under any circumstances use force to pull or lever off safety battery terminal.

Pull off safety battery terminal (2) towards top, lay to one side and secure.

NOTE:

Always route degassing line (1) at a downhill gradient outwards to prevent any siphonic action!

Release screw (1) and remove holder.

Tightening torque 61 21 5AZ .

Release screws (1) and remove retaining bracket.

Tightening torque 61 21 5AZ .

Release screw (2) and remove holder.

Tightening torque 61 21 5AZ .

Remove battery (3).

Installation note:

Make sure battery is correctly seated in mounting.

Replacement:

Vehicles with intelligent battery sensor (IBS)
REGISTER BATTERY REPLACEMENT

NOTE: If Check Control message is present:

Delete fault memory
