33 11... Replacing O-ring for side cover on the left or right rear axle differential (M5)

Necessary preliminary work: 

• Remove REAR AXLE FINAL DRIVE .

Label installation position of side lid (2) relative to housing.

Release bolts along line (1).

Tightening torque 33 11 8AZ .

Press lid (2) off of housing with two screwdrivers.

Installation note: 

Markings (3) on lid and housing must match up.

Tighten screws crosswise.

Raise the bearing and remove lid (1) with disc (2).

Installation note: 

Insert lid with disc in housing.

Raise bearing and push in lid to the stop.

Installation note: 

Clean contact surface (1) for O-ring all around.

Replace O-ring (1).

Installation note: 

Keep drain opening (2) for transmission oil clean.

Wet O-ring with approved final drive oil. Refer to OPERATING FLUIDS .

After installation: 

• Check FINAL DRIVE OIL LEVEL , correct if necessary.
