34 11 000 Removing And Installing/Replacing Brake Pads Of Both Disc Brakes, Front Carbon Ceramic Disc Brakes (CSiC)

IMPORTANT: It is imperative that you follow the GENERAL INFORMATION on handling the carbon ceramic brake (CSiC).
Before installing the new brake pads, CHECK THE CARBON CERAMIC BRAKE DISCS FOR WEAR .

IMPORTANT:

Brake pad wear sensor: After removal it must be replaced (brake pad wear sensor loses its retention capability in the break pad).
Retaining spring: for vehicles older than 48 months it is recommended to replace the retaining spring!

Necessary preliminary work:

WHEELSare only to be removed using wheel fitting lever !
Failure to comply with this stipulation may give rise to damage to the brake disc or brake caliper!
Remove BRAKE PAD WEAR SENSOR .

IMPORTANT: Strikes and collisions with hard tools can be lead to damage/edge chipping on carbon ceramic brake discs.

Carefully drive out locking pins (1) in direction of arrow.

Installation note:

When inserting the retaining pin, the brake pad must be pressed against the spring force of the retaining spring!

IMPORTANT: Use of screwdrivers or mounting levers to push back the pistons is not permitted. Failure to adhere to this instruction leads causes damage to the edges of the carbon ceramic brake disc.
When pressing down piston, note brake fluid level in expansion tank.
Overflowing brake fluid will damage the paintwork.

Turn piston back fully with special tool 34 1 050.

Unclip brake line (1) from holder on spring strut.

IMPORTANT: When releasing the brake caliper from the wheel carrier, ensure that the brake caliper does not strike the brake disc ring.

Unscrew nuts (2).

Tightening torque: 34 11 5AZ .

IMPORTANT: Only pull back brake caliper back so far that it continues to hang on the stud bolt and that the brake pads can be removed towards the front!

Feed the brake pads (2) out of the brake caliper (1).

IMPORTANT: When installing the brake pads:
Mark any worn brake pads.
In the event of one-sided brake pad wear, do not change brake pads round.

Observe MINIMUM THICKNESS OF BRAKE PADS .

Installation note:

Clean brake pads, brake caliper and guide pins.

Do not grease backs of brake pads sleeve.

Brake pads must be correctly seated on guide pins.

IMPORTANT: The new brake pads may only be installed if the wear indicators of the brake discs exhibit erosion of less than 50%. If wear indicators are eroded by >50%, RENEW CARBON CERAMIC BRAKE DISCS .

IMPORTANT: Do not grease brake pads and guides with brake pad paste .
Do not spray carbon ceramic brake discs with brake cleaner .
To clean brake caliper with brake cleaner, cover brake discs and pull brake caliper off stud bolt!

Clean contact surface (1) of brake pistons with brake cleaner.

IMPORTANT: Do not grease contact surfaces (1) with brake shoe paste .
Do not spray carbon ceramic brake disc with brake cleaner!
To clean brake caliper with brake cleaner, cover brake discs and pull brake caliper off stud bolt!

Clean contact surface (1) of brake caliper with brake cleaner.

NOTE: After completing repair work:

When installing new brake pads at front and rear axles, brake fluid level must be brought up to "MAX" marking.
Fully depress brake pedal several times so that brake pads contact brake discs.
Read and comply with notes on BREAKING IN NEW BRAKE DISCS/BRAKE PADS .
When replacing pads, reset CBS display in accordance with factory specification.
