Only perform the following repair work on an engine that has cooled down.
Follow notes for repair work on cooling system . See 17 00 039 VENTING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM WITH VACUUM FILLING UNIT ; 17 00 039 BLEED COOLING SYSTEM AND CHECK FOR WATERTIGHTNESS (N52T, N53, N55) or 17 00 039 BLEEDING COOLING SYSTEM AND CHECKING FOR WATERTIGHTNESS (N63 B44 O 0) .
Only perform the following repair work on an engine that has cooled down.

Necessary preliminary work
IMPORTANT:

Observe marked coolant flow direction.
Observe marked coolant flow direction.
NOTE:
Mark position of coolant hoses prior to dismantling.
Release spring clamps (1) and detach coolant hoses.
Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Unfasten screws (2).
Remove changeover valve for independent/auxiliary heating (3).
After installation
