31 21 180 Replacing bearing for front wheel (All-Wheel Drive vehicle)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 21 other vehicles, including the 2017 BMW 550i GT xDrive, 2017 BMW 535i GT xDrive, 2017 BMW 535i GT, 2016 BMW 550i GT xDrive, and 2016 BMW 535i GT xDrive. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT:
There are/will be wheel bearings installed with a thread pitch of 1.5 mm or 1.25 mm (screw connection of wheel bearing on swivel bearing):
- Make sure the allocation of the wheel bearing/screws is correct!
If applicable, check the thread pitch with a thread gauge.
- Make sure that the torque allocation of the wheel bearing on the swivel bearing is correct!
Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove FRONT WHEEL .
Release collar bolt (1), press brake pedal to floor for this purpose.
Tightening torque 31 60 2AZ
Installation note:
- Replace collar bolt (1) and compression spring (2).
- Pay attention to direction of installation of compression spring!
- Keep collar bolt and spur gearing of bearing/output shaft clean and free of grease.
- Follow installation note of the spur gearing.
Remove BRAKE DISC .
NOTE:
- Check brake pads and replace if necessary!
Press output shaft on swivel bearing to one side slightly and release screws (1).
Tightening torque 31 21 1AZ
Remove bearing.
Installation note:
- Replace screws.
- Keep contact surface (2) of wheel bearing and swivel bearing clean and free from grease.
- If the wheel bearing is not replaced, all the threaded holes (1) in the wheel bearing must be reconditioned.
IMPORTANT:
Note on installation must be observed without fail!
Installation note:
- Spur gearing of bearing (1) and output shaft (2) must be installed tooth in tooth!
- Tighten collar bolt with compression spring by hand.
- Check whether spur gearing is locked tooth in tooth by reciprocally rotating wheel hub/output shaft.
- Tighten collar bolt.
