41 34 041 Replacing Tail Panel: Notes

STRIP DOWN VEHICLE .

Observe procedure REPAIR STAGE 2 .

Following new body parts are required:

Blind rivets N3 16
Blind rivets N6 8
Punch rivets N4 15
EMC screws 9
Cavity sealing wax remover  
Cleaning agent R1 1
Sealant D1  

Removing rear trim panel 

Operation is described on the left side. Right side identical.

Picture show side panel removed for an improved overview.

Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with specified measurements and cut.

Dimension a = approx. 20 mm from component edge of wheel arch.

Dimension b = approx. 60 mm from the edge of recess.

Open welded connections in area (2).

Remove rear trim panel.

NOTE: Install new part overlapping in area of severance cut.

New part preparation 

Mark severance cuts on new part according to vehicle with approx. 20 mm extra material (adhesive flange) and cut.

The new part must not cover the adjacent wheel arch component. Adjust flange area accordingly.

Adjust rear trim panel to fit and secure.

In areas (1), set 24 holes with a diameter of 4.2 mm for blind rivets.

Remove new part again and deburr bore holes.

IMPORTANT: Do not grind new parts and body in area of bonding surfaces.

Installing rear trim panel: 

Clean all  bonding surfaces on new part and on vehicle with cleaning agent R1.

Apply adhesive to bonding surfaces (1).

Install rear trim panel and rivet with blind rivets.

In area (1), use blind rivets N3.

In area (2), use blind rivets N6.

NOTE: When mounting rear trim panel, make sure there is sufficient adhesive on bonding surfaces.

In areas (1), rivet rear trim panel with 2 punch rivets N4.

In area (2), rivet rear trim panel with a total of 11 punch rivets N4.

NOTE: After hardening of the adhesive install two EMC SCREWS  in area (2).

Press rear trim panel in areas (1) and remove emerging adhesive.

Then mount support for bumper trim to secure rear trim panel.

IMPORTANT: Prevent emerging adhesive from coming into contact with support.

After adhesive has hardened, install 9 EMC screws in areas (1) and (4).
