11 00 670 Securing engine in installation position (N54)

Owing to the new guidelines on pedestrian protection, side panels are no longer suitable for supporting the engine.
Observe following instructions relating to special tool:
- Prior to each use, check the special tools for defects, modifications and operational reliability.
- Damaged/modified special tools must not be used!
- No changes or modifications may be made to the special tools!
- Keep special tools dry, clean and free of grease.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Secure engine bonnet/hood in service position
- Remove acoustic cover .
Assemble cross member 00 0 200 with special tools 00 0 202 , 00 0 204 , 00 0 208 .
Modification:
Replace profile strips with special tools 00 0 451 .
Replace front supports with special tools 00 0 452 .
Position transverse member 00 0 200 with a 2nd person helping on designated areas (1, 2).
Always make sure there is sufficient clearance between the engine (or its attachment parts) and the body.
Screw towing hook (72 15 8 108 670) into crankcase and tighten down to approx. 30 Nm.
Align transverse member so that spindle 00 0 202 is correctly positioned over towing hook.
Secure suitable chain to spindle 00 0 202 and suspend from towing hook (1).
Tighten down all adjusting screws and nuts on cross member 00 0 200 .
Unscrew nuts (1).
Raise engine approx. 10 mm with transverse member.
Installation:
Replace self-locking nut.
Tightening torque 22 11 2AZ , see 22 11 ENGINE SUSPENSION
