51 31 200 Removing and installing rear window

Special tools required: 

IMPORTANT: The "INSTRUCTIONS ON WINDOW BONDING"  serve as the basis for this repair instructions and must be observed without fail.
When reusing the rear window: 
Avoid damaging lines for heated rear window / -aerial.
NOTE: Removal is performed with ROLL OUT 2000 . Only use an oscillating blade when replacing the windscreen.

Necessary preliminary tasks 

Disconnect all plug connections (1) and secure cable to rear window with adhesive tape.

IMPORTANT: Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).

Push wire starter from ROLL OUT 2000  at line (1) through adhesive bead.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!

When cutting in area (1), insert the plastic guard from the ROLL OUT 2000  between the cutting wire and the tailgate.

Installation of the spacers 

NOTE: Four semicircular spacer buffers (H = 5 mm) and four Dual Lock tapes are fitted.

Remove all spacers and remove remnants completely.

Note the precise installation position of the spacers.

  1. Dual Lock tape on tabs
  2. Semicircular spacer buffer on molding
  3. Semicircular spacer buffer in distance (A)
    1. = approx. 220 mm

Attach special tool 51 3 010 twice to tool trolley. Moisten suction faces and secure rear window from outside.

If reusing the previous rear window, remove adhesive residue down to 0.5 mm.

Almost vertical part (B) of adhesive bead (1) must be facing window edge.

Apply adhesive bead along marking (6).

Spread bead joint (4) with special tool 00 9 322 .
