Procedure steps

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2016 BMW 328i xDrive, 2016 BMW 328d xDrive, 2015 BMW 328i xDrive, 2015 BMW 328d xDrive, and 2014 BMW 328i xDrive. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

General information safety instructions 

RISK OF DAMAGE

Scratches. 

Tools and sharp-edged components can cause scratches.

Preprocesses 

  1. Remove decorative trim on center console 
    • For equipment specification with in leather instrument panel: Attach plastic adhesive tape (2) between decorative trim (1) and instrument panel.

    • Detach decorative trim (1) with special tool 0 496 571 (00 9 327)  from clamps (2).
    • If necessary, unlock associated plug connections and disconnect.
    • Remove decorative trim (1) upwards.

  2. Remove trim for selector lever 
    • Partially fit special tool 0 493 687 (00 9 340)  as pictured.
    • Lift trim for selector lever (1) all around and remove upwards.
    • If necessary, unlock associated plug connection and disconnect.

  3. Removing the operating unit for the center console 
    • Adhere to following procedure:
      1. Reach under front section of operating unit for the center console (1).
      2. Press front latch mechanism in direction of arrow and simultaneously raise operating unit for the center console (1) towards top.
      3. Disconnect associated plug connection and remove operating unit for the center console (1).

    Keyprocesses 

  4. Removing the trim for the center console 
    • Loosen screws (1).
    • Detach trim for center console (2) with special tool 0 496 569 (00 9 325)  for clamps (3).
    • Slightly raise trim for center console (2) and disconnect associated plug connections.
    • Guide out trim for center console (2) to the top/rear.

  5. Installing the trim for the center console 
    • Do not detach springs (1) during installation.
    • Replace faulty clamps.

    • Connect all plug connections.
    • Position trim for center console (2).
    • Clip in trim for center console (2) at latch mechanisms (3).
    • Tighten the screws (1).

    Postprocesses 

  6. Installing the operating unit for the center console 
    • Clip in the operating unit for the center console.

  7. Install trim for selector lever 

    TECHNICAL INFORMATION

    Latch mechanisms, guides and mounting elements must not be damaged or missing.

    • Check latch mechanisms for damage, if necessary replace trim for selector lever.
    • Clip in trim for selector lever (1).

  8. Installing the decorative trim to center console 

    TECHNICAL INFORMATION

    The controller may have to be remounted upon replacing the decorative trim, depending on the equipment specification.

    • Replace faulty clamps (1) of the decorative trim (2).

    • For equipment specification with in leather instrument panel: Attach plastic adhesive tape (2) between decorative trim (1) and instrument panel.

    • Clip in the decorative trim (1) at the latch mechanisms (2).
