12 51 245 Replacing the wiring harness section for the engine transmission module (N20)

IMPORTANT: Read and comply with notes on PROTECTION AGAINST ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD PROTECTION) .

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Overview of wiring harness section for engine transmission module (shows wiring harness for vehicles with automatic transmission and four-wheel drive):

Unlock fasteners (1) from below and slide upwards approx. 10 mm.

Unlock locks (2) in direction of arrow.

Remove cover (3).

Detach all engine wiring harness section connectors from electronics box (1).

Installation note: 

Make sure rubber grommets are correctly fitted (watertightness).

Unlock and disconnect following connectors and lines  
Unlock and disconnect connector on DME control unit  
Unlock connector on air conditioning compressor and disconnect  
Unlock connector on starter motor and disconnect  
Release ground cable  
Unlock and disconnect connector for wiring harness section of engine sensor system module 1  
Unlock and disconnect connector on reversing light switch Manual gearbox only
Unlock connector on transmission and disconnect Automatic transmission only

Release wiring harness if necessary from existing clips and clamps.

Feed out wiring harness and remove.

Installation note: 

Check wiring harness installation arrangement.

Check plug connections for correct fit.

Check stored fault message.

Clear diagnostic fault entries from fault memory.
