51 36 070 Removing and installing/replacing left or right rear side window

Special tools required: 

IMPORTANT: The "INSTRUCTIONS ON BONDING WINDSCREEN"  serve as the basis for this repair instruction and must be observed without fail.
Cover rear side panels with protective covers.
NOTE: Only use an oscillating blade when replacing the windscreen.

Necessary preliminary work: 

Secure outside of side window with adhesive tape.

Insert blade carefully between body and side window.

Guide web of blade parallel to side window. Cut through glue bead as close to body as possible.

Remove side window with special tool 51 3 010 .

Fit straight blade with adjustable roller

Department) on tool and set dimension (X).

X = see list in next figure

NOTE: Sharpen knife blade before every use on a running machine (even with new knife blades).
Tape off the side window and sheet metal flange all round with fabric adhesive tape.

Area Cutting length Cutting depth = X
A 60 mm 25 mm
B 15 mm 20 mm
C   24 mm
D   27 mm
E 30 mm 23 mm
F 230 mm 18 mm
G   55 mm

Dual lock tape Installation note: 

Remove remainder of centering pin (1).

Remove rest of dual lock tape (2) and clean adhesive area.

Stick new dual lock tape (2) to raised marking on sheet metal flange (3).

Dual lock tape: 

2 = 20 x 10 mm

Dual lock tapes on side window must be matched to dual lock tapes on sheet metal flange.

Cut nozzle to size.

  1. A = 8 ± 2 mm
  2. B = 11-2 mm
  3. C = 4 mm
  4. D= 2.5 mm

Overview for side window bonding, rear (E84):

Attach special tool 51 3 010 to tool trolley. Moisten suction surfaces and secure side window.

When reusing the existing side window, remove residual adhesive to 0.5 mm.

If necessary, remove remainder of dual lock tapes (5). Clean adhesive area and stick on new dual lock tapes (5).

Almost vertical part (B) of adhesive bead (1) must face PVC molding (6).

Spread bead joint (4) with special tool 00 9 322 .

Attach side window with special tool 51 3 220 at bottom first with TPE spray-coating (2).

Fit clips in corresponding bore hole of new side window.

Ensure that TPE coating (2) is flush with side panel (3).

Snap side window into dual lock tape (1).

Fix side window in position with yellow plastic adhesive tape.
