51 44 011 Removing and installing/replacing headlining (version with slide/tilt sunroof)

Necessary preliminary work: 

• Remove BOTH TRIM PANELS FOR ROOF PILLAR AT FRONT  (A-pillar)
• Remove BOTH TRIM PANELS FOR DOOR POST AT TOP  (B-pillar)
• Remove BOTH TRIM PANELS FOR REAR ROOF PILLAR  (C-pillar)
• Remove REAR INTERIOR ROOF LIGHT
• Remove BOTH SUN VISORS AND COUNTER SUPPORTS 
• Remove all grab handles  . See 51 16 450 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING REAR LEFT/RIGHT GRAB HANDLE  or 51 16 480 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING FRONT GRAB HANDLE 
• Remove the rear head restraint  . See 52 26 210 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING HEADREST FOR LEFT OR RIGHT REAR SEAT or 52 24 390 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT REAR HEAD RESTRAINT (driver's side) (except F80)
• Release edge protection  . See 51 72 000 REPLACING EDGE PROTECTION FOR LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT DOOR  or 51 72 010 REPLACING EDGE PROTECTION FOR LEFT OR RIGHT REAR DOOR  on all doors in the headlining area

Fully release rear edge protection on driver's side

Depending on version: 

• Remove VANITY MIRROR LIGHTS
• Remove ROOF SWITCH CLUSTER
• REMOVE front ceiling light.
• Remove microphones  . See 84 31 550 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING MICROPHONE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE or 84 31 551 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING HANDS-FREE MICROPHONE, PASSENGER'S SIDE
• Remove ADDITIONAL BRAKE LIGHT

Move both front seat backrest as far back as possible.

Detach edge protection (1) toward the inside.

Undo the headlining (3) at the clips (2).

Remove headlining (3) through rear door (driver's side).

Installation note: 

Replace faulty clips (2).
