31 21 180 Replacing bearing (wheel bearing) for front wheel

IMPORTANT: Bearing cannot be dismantled.
Do not wash out bearing.

Remove FRONT WHEELS .

IMPORTANT: Expand turning lock sufficiently to avoid damaging thread when releasing collar nut.

Release collar nut (1), press brake pedal to floor for this purpose.

Installation: 

Replace collar nut, oil collar nut/wheel bearing contact surface only and tighten down.

No oil permitted on thread of shaft journal or collar nut.

Tightening torque 31 21 2AZ .

Secure collar nut by positive peening on flat areas of output shaft.

Remove BRAKE DISK .

Release screw (1) and pull pulse generator out of bore.

Installation: 

Clean bore for pulse generator and lubricate with Staburags NBU 12/K grease.

Tightening torque 34 51 3AZ .

Release screws (2) and remove holder from swivel bearing.

NOTE: Output shaft has been removed only for the purpose of creating the picture.

Release bolts (1) and remove wheel bearing.

Installation: 

Replace screws.

Tightening torque 31 21 1AZ

IMPORTANT: Do not damage inner race (1) of wheel bearing.

Detach wheel bearing from output shaft (refer to PRESSING OUTPUT SHAFT OUT OF DRIVE FLANGE ).

Installation: 

Keep contact surface of swivel bearing and wheel bearing clean and free from oil and grease.
