31 50 001 Removing and installing/replacing front differential

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove LEFT OUTPUT SHAFT
- Secure RIGHT OUTPUT SHAFT WITH SPECIAL TOOL
- Remove FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT
- Lower FRONT AXLE SUPPORT
IMPORTANT:
Risk of injury!
When releasing the last bolt, grip the front differential to prevent it from falling down.

Detach vent line (1).
Release bolts (2-4).
Remove front differential downwards.
Installation:
During removal and installation: Replace O-RING .
Coat O-ring with front differential oil.
Make sure screws are installed in correct positions.
- Bolt (2) M12 x 60
- Bolt (3) M12 x 125
- Bolt (4) M12 x 85
Tightening torque 31 50 1AZ .
Check FRONT DIFFERENTIAL OIL LEVEL , correct if necessary
After installation:
- Perform chassis alignment check. See 32 00 150 KDS CHASSIS/WHEEL ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH LOAD UP TO DESIGN POSITION or 32 00 155 KDS CHASSIS/WHEEL ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH RIDE-HEIGHT MEASUREMENT WITHOUT LOAD .
- Carry out steering angle sensor adjustment/adjustment for active front steering. See 32 10 005 ADJUSTMENT FOR ACTIVE FRONT STEERING and 61 31 996 CARRYING OUT STEERING ANGLE SENSOR ADJUSTMENT .
