65 77 016 Removing and installing/replacing AIRBAG control unit

Incorrect handling can activate AIRBAG and cause injury

NOTE: Follow instructions for handling optical fibers. Refer to 61 00... NOTES ON HANDLING OPTICAL FIBERS .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Disconnect battery negative lead and cover. Refer to 12 00 ... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .
Remove rear storage compartment. Refer to 51 16 240 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR STORAGE COMPARTMENT .

Cut through carpet (1) in area (2) and fold to one side.

Unlock plug connections (3) and disconnect.

Unscrew nuts (4).

Installation:

Tightening torque 65 77 1AZ. Refer to AUDIO, NAVIGATION AND ANTI-THEFT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Feed out AIRBAG control unit (5) in direction of arrow and remove.

Replacement:

Carry out coding/programming.

Observe following IDC specifications:

Programming
Coding
If necessary, car & key memory
CD "CIP"
