61 61 082 Removing And Installing Left Windscreen Wiper Arm (Driver's Side)

Special Tools Required: 

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!

Both windscreen wiper arms are secured with significantly different torques.

Move windscreen wipers into rest position ("installation position").

Removal: 

NOTE: Engine hood/bonnet shown removed for purposes of clarity.

Unclip cover cap (1) in direction of arrow and remove.

Installation: 

Make sure locks (1) are correctly engaged.

Version A (water jet hose connected): 

Disconnect plug connection (1).

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!

At low outside temperatures, carefully heat water jet hose (3) in area of distributor (2) with hot air blower.

Turn water jet hose (3) and pull off in direction of arrow.

Slacken nut (4).

Version B (quick-release coupling): 

NOTE: Windscreen wiper arm shown removed for purposes of clarity.

For releasing, push slide (2) of quick-release in direction of arrow until it snaps audibly into place.

Pull off hose (1).

Disconnect associated plug connection and release nut.

IMPORTANT: Risk of breakage!

Do not bend windscreen wiper arm when removing.

Detach windscreen wiper arm with special tool 61 6 060.

Pull off adjusting disc (1) with special tool 61 6 060..

NOTE: Installation of windscreen wiper arm is described separately from removal.

Replacement: 

Installation: 

Replace adjusting disc (4).

Join adjusting disc (4) and wiper arm (3) to each other (fit) and attach together on shaft (5).

Replace adjusting element (2).

Screw adjusting element (2) and nut (1) partially onto shaft (5) but do not screw down fully yet.

IMPORTANT: Danger of loosening!

Observe tightening specifications without fail.

Position wiper blade above marking (2) on windscreen.

Place special tool 00 9 331 at height of pivot point of wiper blade on windscreen. Turn wiper arm until no gap can be seen between special tool 00 9 331 and wiper blade. Hold wiper arm in this position.

Tighten nut (1). Tightening torque, refer to 61 61 12AZ in GENERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Observe settling time (15 minutes).

Rebend nut (1). Tighten down nut (1) again to tightening torque, refer to 61 61 12AZ in GENERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Version B (quick-release coupling): 

NOTE: Windscreen wiper arm shown removed for purposes of clarity.

Check sealing ring on distributor for damage, replace if necessary.

Coat sealing ring with anti-friction agent.

Push water jet hose (1) in direction of arrow onto distributor.

Make sure water jet hose (1) and slide (2) are correctly seated and engaged on distributor.

Close associated plug connection.

Clip cover cap onto wiper arm.

Make sure locks (1) are correctly engaged.

Perform one-touch wiping twice.

Check adjustment dimension  between windscreen wiper blade and cowl panel trim and adjust if necessary.

Check contact angle of windscreen wiper arm to windscreen and adjust if necessary.
