32 41 037 Removing And Installing Power Steering Pump For Power Steering Gear With Dynamic Drive (N73)
Close off pipe connections with plugs.
Fluid reservoir must be replaced in event of metal abrasion, sluggish pump shaft or increased wear! Refer to 32 41 253 Removing And Installing/Replacing Fluid Reservoir For Power Steering With Dynamic Drive .
The filter integrated in the fluid reservoir can only absorb a limited amount of foreign particles. If the filter clogs, the hydraulic system can no longer be sufficiently protected
Metal abrasion is perceived in the fluid reservoir as metallically glittering hydraulic fluid.
It is only necessary to replace the fluid reservoir because of leaks (e.g. at hose connections) only in the event of the unavoidably high ingress of dirt.
Necessary Preliminary Tasks:
- Draw off and dispose off hydraulic fluid from fluid reservoir.
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.
- Remove drive belt. Refer to 11 28 010 REPLACING ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT (N73) .
- Remove front assembly underside protection. Refer to 51 47 490 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque, refer to 32 41 5AZ in STEERING AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
Release banjo bolt and disconnect Dynamic Drive pressure line (2) with bracket from power steering pump.
Installation:
Replace all sealing rings.
Make sure parts are laid without tension and with sufficient spacing to adjoining components.
Tightening torque, refer to 32 41 3AZ in STEERING AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
Release banjo bolt and disconnect power steering pressure line (1) from power steering pump.
Installation:
Replace sealing ring.
Make sure parts are laid without tension and with sufficient spacing to adjoining components.
Tightening torque, refer to 32 41 3AZ in STEERING AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
Release hose clamp and detach suction line (2) from power steering pump.
Installation:
Align suction line (2) by way of marking to connection on power steering pump.
Unscrew nut (1).
Release bolt (2) and nut (3).
Remove power steering pump.
Installation:
Tightening torque, refer to 32 41 1AZ in STEERING AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
After installation:
- Fill and bleed hydraulic system. Refer to 32 13 006 BLEEDING POWER STEERING UNIT .
- Check pipe connections for leaks.
- If necessary, carry out initial operation for Dynamic Drive. Refer to 37 10 001 INITIAL OPERATION WITH TEST RUN OF DYNAMIC DRIVE .
