12 42 500 Removing And Installing Or Replacing Battery Positive Lead (Between Alternator, Starter Motor And Battery Positive Support Point) (N73)

BATTERY POSITIVE LEAD REMOVAL

Work Step	Note:
Switch off ignition.
Disconnect negative battery lead.	Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery. Refer to 12 00 ... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .
Lift engine hood into assembly position. Refer to 51 00... SERVICE POSITION OF ENGINE HOOD .
Remove intake air manifold. Refer to 11 61 050 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INTAKE AIR MANIFOLD (N73) .
Remove right fresh air duct. Refer to 64 31 031 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT MICROFILTER AIR DUCT (AUTOMATIC A/C HIGH) .
Remove bulkhead, equipment compartment, center. Refer to 51 71 085 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CENTER OF ASSEMBLY COMPARTMENT BULKHEAD .
Remove suction filter housing. Refer to 13 71 010 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT (OR RIGHT) INTAKE FILTER HOUSING (N73) .
Disconnect battery positive lead from jump-start support point.
Detach battery positive lead from alternator. Refer to 12 31 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING ALTERNATOR (LIQUID-COOLED N73) .	Tightening torque, refer to 12 31 1AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
Secure engine in installation position with special tool. Refer to 11 00 ... SECURING ENGINE IN INSTALLATION POSITION WITH SPECIAL TOOL (N73) .
Lower front axle.
Remove left exhaust manifold. Refer to 18 40 010 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT EXHAUST MANIFOLD (N73) .
Detach battery positive lead from starter motor. Refer to 12 41 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING STARTER MOTOR (N73) .	Tightening torque, refer to 12 41 4AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Release screws (1).

Remove left engine support arm.

Unclip battery positive lead (2) from holders (1).

Unclip battery positive lead (3) from holders (1).

Disconnect battery positive lead from jump-start support point.

Tightening torque, refer to 12 42 1AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Add final details to vehicle.

Check function of DME.
