11 12 005 Removing And Installing/Sealing Left Cylinder Head Cover (N73)

Necessary Preliminary Tasks: 

IMPORTANT: Do not bend any high-pressure lines. Refer to 13 53 175 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING ALL PRESSURE LINES (N73) .

Detach high-pressure lines (1) at mounting points (2).

On high-pressure pump: 

Detach feed line (3).

Detach high-pressure line (4).

Detach leakage line (5).

On rail strip: 

Detach high-pressure lines (6).

Remove servomotor for left eccentric shaft. Refer to 11 37 022 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING SERVOMOTOR FOR LEFT AND RIGHT ECCENTRIC SHAFT (N73) .

Release screws (1). Remove high-pressure pump (2).

Release screws (3). Remove spacer (4).

Illustrations show cylinders 1 to 6.

Release screws (1).

Disconnect plug connection from secondary air valve (2)

and remove towards top.

Installation: 

Replace seal for secondary air valve (2).

Illustrations show cylinders 1 to 6.

Disconnect plug connections on sensors (1).

Release screws on flange (2) and remove.

Release screws in area (3).

Remove cylinder head cover (4).

Installation: 

Replace sealing elements for screw connection (3).

Insert screw connection (3) without pretension.

Tighten down screw connection (3) in diagonal sequence from inside to outside.

Installation: 

Replace spark plug domes.

Coat rubber seals on spark plug dome with sealing compound.

When fitting cylinder head cover: Align spark plug domes to cylinder head cover.

Replace sealing ring (1).

Installation: 

Press sealing ring (1) into cylinder head cover until flush.

Note installation direction of sealing ring (1).

Groove in sealing ring (1) points outwards.

Installation: 

Clean seal residue from sealing surfaces.

Apply a thin and even coat of Drei Bond liquid sealant in area (1):

Replace cylinder head cover gasket.

Ensure that seals are correctly seated.
