52 16 400 Replacing seat cover for left or right front seat (sports/electric)

Removing carrier for actuation: 

Remove outer cover with switch combination, refer to 52 16 040 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING OUTER COVER ON FRONT LEFT OR RIGHT SEAT (SPORTS/ELECTRIC) .

Version with seat heating:

Disconnect plug connection (1) if necessary.

Unfasten cable clip (2).

Detach cable (3) from holder (4).

Version with seat heating:

Detach cable (1) from holder (2).

Release screw (1) on inside/outside.

Unclip clips (3) towards bottom and pull trim (2) out a little.

Release screws (1).

Pull trim (2) out a little and release screw (3).

Unclip clip (5) from holder (4).

Remove trim (2) and holder (4).

Installation: 

  1. Cable holders (1) on holder (2) must not be damaged.

Installation: 

  1. Clips (1) on sports seat trim (2) must not be damaged.

NOTE: The operation "Removing holder for actuation" ends here.

Removing complete seat cover: 

Remove inner cover, refer to 52 13 041 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING INNER COVER ON LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SEAT BACKREST (NORMAL/ MANUAL) .

Remove front seat, refer to 52 14 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SEAT (NORMAL / ELECTRIC) .

Version with seat occupancy detector:

If necessary, disconnect plug connection (1) from control unit (2).

Version with seat heating:

If necessary, unlock catches (1) and detach plug housing (2).

Version with seat heating:

If necessary, press catch (1) downwards and detach cover (2).

Version with seat heating:

Disconnect plug connection (1) of seat heater from plug housing (2).

Press backrest cover (1) to one side and release screw (2) on left and right.

Installation: 

Replace screw (2) (microencapsulation) and observe tightening torque 52 10 2AZ. Refer to SEATS - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

CAUTION: Do not turn screw underneath screw (2) (risk of damage).

Remove complete backrest (3) in direction of arrow.

Detach seat cover (1) from seat frame (2).

Pull out cover piping (1) completely from seat frame (2).

Unfasten thigh support and pull completely towards front.

Bend open retaining plates (1) and remove cover piping (2).

NOTE: Cushion (1) is secured at front with double-sided adhesive tape (3) to holder (2).

Pull cushion (1) towards top off holder (2).

Lever trim wire (1) out of mounts (2).

Installation: 

  1. Stick new double-sided adhesive tape (4) to holder (3) or attach mount with spray adhesive.

Model without seat heating and without seat occupancy detector:

Remove seat cover (1) with thigh support (2) towards front/top.

Model with seat heating and/or with seat occupancy detector:

Pull seat cover (1) forward a little and feed cable (2) out.

Remove seat cover (1) with thigh support towards front/top.

NOTE: The operation "Removing complete seat cushion" ends here.

Replacing padding or sensor mat: 

Release clips (1) and (2) at rear left/right from padding (3).

Release all clips (1) on left/right and (2) center from padding (3).

Version with seat heating:

Installation: 

  1. Note routing of seat heater cable (1).

  3. Do not damage with clips.

Release all retainers.

Remove seat cover from support (foam rubber section).

Remove all remnants of retainers from seat cover and support.

Remove padding (1) from seat cover (2).

Version with seat heating:

Installation: 

  1. If necessary, detach heating mat (1) from adhesive tape (2) of thigh support.

  2. 3 Seat heater cable

Stick double-sided adhesive tape (2) to padding (1) or coat with spray adhesive.

Version with seat heater and/or with seat occupancy detector:

Installation: 

  1. Feed seat heater cable (1) through bore (3).
  2. Feed seat heater cable (2) through bore (4).

Installation: 

Bend new clips (2) closed with special tool 52 0 050.

Installation: 

  1. The padding (2) is coated with wax (1) to prevent grinding noises.

  2. Do not remove wax (1) on support (2).

Passenger seat only (replacing support):

Installation: 

  1. Make sure foam is not extensively damaged (malfunction of passenger seat occupancy detector).
  2. Fig 29: Installing Sensor Mat

  3. Lay sensor mat connection without creasing into groove on padding.
  4. Fit new sensor mat (1) for passenger seat occupancy detector.
  5. Align new sensor mat (1) on foam (2).
  6. Feed plug (3) through hole (4).

Installation: 

  1. Detach liner (1) at individual points and stick sensor mat (2) onto foam (3).

Liner is the protective film on adhesive area.

NOTE: The operation "Replacing padding or sensor mat" ends here.

Replacing seat cover: 

Pull trim threads (1) out of seat cover (2).

Cut new seat cover (2) to size and insert trim threads (1).

3 Seat heater cable
