61 21 010 Removing and installing (replacing) battery (M5): Notes

To ensure the correct safety and convenience functions, install only the original battery (battery size and type) stored in the vehicle order. Observe BATTERY REPLACEMENT INFORMATION .

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Disconnect BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD  (1).

Disconnect plug connection (2) of one-pin IBS cable (3).

Release nut (5) of safety battery terminal (4). Tightening torque: 5 Nm

IMPORTANT: Do not under any circumstances pull/lever safety battery terminal (4) off by force.

Detach safety battery terminal (4) towards top, lay to one side and secure.

Release nuts (1) and remove retaining bar (2).

Release threaded pin (1) and remove holders (2).

Detach vent (3) in direction of arrow.

Fold both clips (4) open.

Lift out battery (5).

Installation: 

Make sure battery (5) is correctly seated in associated mounts.
