54 12 211 Removing and installing complete glass slide/tilt sunroof (frame)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2007 BMW 530xi, 2007 BMW 530i, 2007 BMW 525xi, 2007 BMW 525i, and 2006 BMW 530xi. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove roofliner. See 51 44 011 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING HEADLINER .
NOTE:
- Move front seat back/down as far as possible.
- Remove glass sunroof with aid of a second person.
E60 only:
- Remove both head airbags at top. See HEADLINER (FRONT) .
- Remove glass sunroof lid. See 54 12 115 Removing And Installing Glass Slide/Tilt Sunroof Lid .
E66 with rear air conditioning only:
- Remove both air ducts
E60 only:
Remove grab handle holder:
- Release screws.
- Remove holder.
- Detach water drain hoses (4)
- Unlock and disconnect plug (2)
- Disconnect cable (5) from sunroof (6)
- Release screws (1) (during installation: fit shims)
Tightening torque, see 54 12 6AZ in SLIDE/TILT ROOF & CONVERTIBLE TOP - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
- Release screws (3) on left/right and carefully lower sunroof (6)
Tightening torque, see 54 12 6AZ in SLIDE/TILT ROOF & CONVERTIBLE TOP - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
IMPORTANT: Do not damage any surrounding parts when removing sunroof (6). - Remove sunroof (6) completely (through rear door)
Installation:
Due to robot assembly, all screws (1) are secured with washers (2) in production. These washers (2) are not absolutely necessary during manual assembly. They are however useful for positioning the frame on the body with 4 screws.
If the standard screws can no longer grip, use "repair screws" (have larger threads).
IMPORTANT:
Do not crush any cables when fitting the glass slide/tilt sunroof.
