00 00 610 Engine oil service (M54)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Recycling: 

Catch and dispose of used oil in a suitable container. Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.

Release and tighten down main flow oil filter cap with a socket. When the main flow oil filter cap is opened, engine oil flows from the oil filter housing back into the oil sump.

Tightening torque is printed on top of cap.

Installation: 

Replace filter element.

Replace and oil all O-rings.

Remove oil drain plug (1).

Installation: 

Replace sealing ring.

Tightening torque, see 11 13 1AZ in 11 13 OIL PAN .

Assemble vehicle.

Top up engine oil.

Start engine and run at idle until oil pressure warning lamp goes out.

Switch off engine, check engine oil level after drain time.

Check handbrake for correct operation. See PARKING BRAKE .

At every third oil change, change air cleaner element. See AIR CLEANER .

Reset CBS display. See MODELS WITH CONDITION BASED SERVICE (CBS) .
