64 51 002 Replacing evaporator

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove heater  , see 64 11 206 Removing and installing/replacing heater 

Pull temperature sensor (1) out of housing (2). Feed out associated cable from housing (2). Installation note:  Ensure correct cable routing.

Unlock plug connections (1) and (2) and disconnect. Feed out associated cable from housing (3). Installation note:  Ensure correct cable routing.

Release screws (1).

Release screws (1) and remove expansion valve (2).

Installation: 

Ensure that seals are correctly seated.

Replace sealing rings and moisten with refrigerant oil.

Tightening torque 64 53 2AZ.  See 64 53 REFRIGERANT LINES AND EXPANSION VALVE .

Use special tool 00 9 030 to install sealing rings without damaging them.

Release screws (1) and carefully remove upper housing section (2).

Remove evaporator (1).

After installation: 

• Evacuate and fill A/C system  , see 64 50 009 Drawing off, evacuating and filling A/C system (R 134a) .
• Fill and vent cooling system  , see 17 00 008 DRAINING AND ADDING COOLANT IN RADIATOR (N62TU, N63) , and 17 00 039 VENTING COOLING SYSTEM AND CHECKING FOR WATER LEAKS (N63) , or 17 00 005 DRAINING AND ADDING COOLANT (N54) , 17 00 039 VENTING COOLING SYSTEM AND CHECKING FOR WATER LEAKS (N54) .
