54 34 440 Removing And Installing/Replacing Convertible Top Compartment Lid Mechanism On Left Or Right

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove Convertible top compartment lid . Refer to 41 63 060 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CONVERTIBLE TOP COMPARTMENT LID .

WARNING:

Soft top becomes pressureless without a warning signal.

For all work, secure soft top with a suitable support tool against collapsing.

Ensure Convertible top is supported in the middle.

Ignition must remain switched off during the repair work.

Failure to comply with this instruction may result in the hydraulic valves incurring preliminary damage.

Installation:

Microencapsulated screws/nuts (Loctite) must be replaced and may not be reused
Screw connection must be completed within 20 minutes (start of curing)
Microencapsulated screws/nuts must not be retightened
Threads of nuts/bolts must be cleaned beforehand in event of repeated use

IMPORTANT:

Never lift off ball socket with engaged retainer.

Replaced overelongated retainers.

Before installation, grease ball socket if necessary.

Installation:

Pack grease into two opposite positions in socket.

The grease spreads after installation on the ball pin all round in the ball socket.

Removing/installing ball sockets:

Push on retainer in direction of groove with screwdriver
Lift off ball socket from ball pin
Slide retainer back
Fit ball socket on ball stud and snap into place with force

Removing hydraulic cylinder on left or right:

Push on locking clamps (1)
Detach ball sockets at sides.
Feed out hydraulic cylinder.

Unclip Bowden cable grommet (1).

Unhook Bowden cable nipple (2).

Left side of vehicle only:

Release screws (1).

Remove Hall sensors.

Unclip wiring harness and feed out from Convertible top compartment lid mechanism.

Unscrew nuts (1).

Remove Convertible top compartment lid mechanism.
