51 45 030 Removing And Installing Instrument Panel Trim

NOTE:
Observe the following instructions to facilitate removal of the instrument panel trim:
- Move front seats back completely and lower
- Move steering column into "lower" and "extended" position
NOTE:
Description is shown on the E87 by way of example. There may be differences in detail in the case of other models.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Clamp off battery negative lead . See 12 00... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .
- Remove both trims for front roof pillar
- Remove trim for instrument panel, bottom left
- Remove instrument cluster . See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (128i) or INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (135i) .
- Remove insert for radio control key
- Remove Start/Stop switch . See 61 31 023 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING START/STOP SWITCH .
- Remove steering column cover . See STEERING COLUMN (128i) or STEERING COLUMN (135i) .
- Remove center console switch cluster . See 61 31 052 REMOVING AND INSTALLING (OR REPLACING VERSION WITHOUT CCC) CENTER CONSOLE SWITCH CLUSTER (AFTER 03/2007) or 61 31 054 REMOVING AND INSTALLING (OR REPLACING VERSION WITH CCC) CENTER CONSOLE SWITCH CLUSTER (AFTER 03/2007) .
- Remove operator unit for heating and air conditioning system . See 64 11 377 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING HEATER/AIR CONDITIONER OPERATOR UNIT (VERSION WITHOUT CCC/ASK) (128i) or 64 11 378 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING HEATER/AIR CONDITIONER OPERATOR UNIT (VERSION WITH CCC/ASK) (128i) , or 64 11 377 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING HEATER/AIR CONDITIONER OPERATOR UNIT (VERSION WITHOUT CCC/ASK) (135i) or 64 11 378 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING HEATER/AIR CONDITIONER OPERATOR UNIT (VERSION WITH CCC/ASK) (135i) .
- Remove right glovebox with housing
- Remove airbag module on front passenger side . See 72 12 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING AIRBAG MODULE ON PASSENGER SIDE (128i) or 72 12 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING AIRBAG MODULE ON PASSENGER SIDE 9135i) .
- Remove storage compartment
In appropriate version:
- Remove radio receiver
- Remove Car Communication Computer
- Remove Central Information Display
- Remove audio system controller
- Remove solar sensor
Release screws (1).
Unfasten screws (2).
Pull back instrument panel trim (3) in direction of arrow.
If necessary, disconnect available plug connections and remove instrument panel trim (3).
Installation:
Make sure guides (1) of instrument panel trim (2) are correctly seated in mountings.
Make sure seals are correctly seated on air ducts.
