Automatic Transmission: Installation

CAUTION:
Oil cooler and lines must always be flushed before a replacement transmission is installed.
CAUTION:
When joining up engine and transmission, ensure ease of movement of torque converter.
- If replacing transmission, fit shift lever, bracket for cable and retainers for oxygen sensor cable from old transmission to new transmission.
- Check that dowel sleeves are correctly seated. See Fig 1 . Replace damaged dowel sleeves.
- Bore (1) in driving disk must be accessible from opening on engine oil pan. See Fig 2 .
- Rotate torque converter until bore in torque converter is flush with bore in driving disk. Flange automatic transmission to engine. See Figure . Tighten transmission-to-engine screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install propeller shaft. See REMOVING AND INSTALLING COMPLETE PROPELLER SHAFT .
- Install transmission cross-member. See Figure . Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- To complete installation, reverse removal procedures. Tighten torque converter-to-flywheel screws to specification. See Figure . See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Replace sealing rings on hydraulic lines. See Figure . To adjust cable, release nut. See Figure . Adjust cable by means of holder (2). Spacing (A) is 1 mm. After completion of work, check transmission fluid level. Top up if necessary.
